The part of my communication that is impacted the most because of cerebral palsy is not my communication. It’s how strangers choose to interact with me. That drives me crazy. I don’t know why people can’t just come up and say hello. Can I help you with anything or hello? Do you need my help 100% of the time I can be in a store or at a restaurant using either crutches a walker or a wheelchair. 100% of the time I either get one of two reactions if I’m the person shopping, they always ask the person who’s with me and I am always with somebody because I don’t drive and it’s more fun to go with someone instead of in an Uber or Lyft by myself. “ What does she want?” talking to the person who’s with me directing the question to to my friend and our friends. The other reaction I get if it’s not that is the person will interact with me, but I guess they must assume that because I’m walking with crutches or in a wheelchair or walking with a walker I must be deaf because they’re literally screaming at me. I’m like I can hear you. I wish people would learn to come up. Say hello and ask if I needed help if I need help on the rare occasions that I do use an Uber or a Lyft and go somewhere by myself if someone asked me if I need help and I need help, I will 100% ask for it

Research
This study investigated the factors influencing social participation among Iranian children with cerebral palsy (CP). The research involved 274 children aged 6 to 12 years and utilized standardized measures to assess social participation and environmental factors. The study found that the type of CP, manual ability level, and cognitive level (IQ) were strong predictors of social participation.
The key findings indicate that personal and environmental factors significantly impact social participation in children with CP. These insights can help tailor interventions to improve social engagement for these children.
For individuals with CP, understanding these factors can guide caregivers and educators in creating supportive environments that enhance social interactions.
The study is published in a reputable journal, providing a reliable source of information for understanding social participation in children with CP.

Research
This multicentre prospective longitudinal study examined factors associated with the development of social participation in individuals with cerebral palsy (CP) aged 1-24 years in the Netherlands. The study involved 424 participants and assessed various factors such as age, intellectual impairment, and type of CP.
The study found that epilepsy and speech impairment were independently associated with social participation development. Children attending special education showed less favorable social participation development.
These findings highlight the need for tailored support for individuals with CP, particularly those with epilepsy or speech impairments, to enhance social participation.
The study is well-regarded, providing valuable insights into the factors influencing social participation in individuals with CP.
